Building a better Hunter.

Recently, I lost my temper with another hunter in our guild over what I perceived to be a bit of laziness on his part. We had just added a third hunter to our roster and the 3 of us were discussing, via our guild forums, specs and how to cover everything we needed (Imp + Glyphed HM, TSA, replenishment, etc.)  in our 25 man progression raids.

The discussion was fairly productive and I thought we had settled on our individual roles. The next day, however, the hunter assigned to Improved and Glyphed Hunter’s Mark replies to our discussion basically stating that he’s more concerned with his personal DPS over raid dps and is debating the value of adding Silencing Shot to his spec at the expense of Hunter’s mark.

Now, this is kinda where I lost it. During our initial discussion, we had already debated the pros and cons of each of our specs (or so I had thought). It wasn’t so much the fact that he was interested in upping his personal DPS as much as it was he was trying to do so without investigating the impact it would have on the rest of us.

I felt he was basically asking me to hold his hand on what he should spec (and from previous conversations, what gear, gems, glyphs he should use). All things I’d already given my opinion on.

Now I’m a bit flattered that he thinks I’m some great wealth of hunter knowledge, but it irks me to no end to think that someone wants me to hold their hand. Pretty much every thing I know I’ve researched on my own or learned the hard way. And I don’t mind sharing that information one bit really, but I can’t keep answering the same questions over and over. Especially when someone hasn’t taken the time to investigate the concern for themselves.

I usually spend an hour a day reading up on hunters (God, I have too much time on my hands) and in most cases, an hour or so before raid time working a target dummy to apply any tips or tricks I’ve learned to my own play-style. I never see this other hunter doing these types of things.

Until I went off. I basically made a post of the hunter resources I use and asked Brade to sticky it in our hunter forums. Seems to be working so far even if I had to be a dick about it.

In the end, I decided that some things just can’t be taught really. Some people can only be pointed in the right direction. It’s up to them to decide it’s time to build themselves a better hunter.

  2. Thanks Virile!

Just the other day I made the comment to Beru that I was happy all my art schoolin’ was going toward such lofty and noble projects as WoW. 🙂

  3. Hehe. Art is definitely one of those things that I have no skill in whatsoever.

  4. Anyone who is paying attention knows that I am the true hunter authority anyway.
